The México Indígena team conducted research in the Sierra Juárez, Oaxaca, in order to validate maps and results with community members. This ensures the utmost accuracy and precision before finalizing and delivering the maps to the communities. Land tenure, natural resource conservation, and cultural and historical sites are also being investigated.
The first AGS Bowman Conference in Oaxaca City and the Sierra Juárez brought together distinguished scholars, students, and professionals from universities and government offices from Mexico, Canada, the Antilles, and the United States to discuss present and future expeditions and their role in improving geographical understanding of peoples and places around the world.
